EHMAthon & Business Model and Healthtech Innovations Competition

Dear Innovators,

What is EHMAthon?

EHMAthon is a hackathon where participants work in cross-functional teams with mentors to find innovative solutions to a common and given challenge in the field of healthcare & technology, by using Design Thinking. The EHMAthon took place for the first time at the EHMA 2018 Conference organized by the European Health Management Association and the Semmelweis University, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, edUcate and supported by EIT Health. Following the success of the first edition and to keep supporting young professionals and students in expressing their innovative ideas, EHMA organizes the second edition of the EHMAthon in 2019, in the framework of its EHMA 2019 Conference in Espoo, Finland. THE EHMATHON 2019 is organised in partnership with Business Model and Healthtech Innovations. BMI Health Tech Innovations is a project which is done in cooperation with companies involved with medicine and health tech. For the 2019 edition, the EHMATHON group is composed of students studying medicine, bio IT, industrial engineering and information networks. EHMATHON partner companies give the students, grouped in teams, a real healthcare challenge to solve. The teams brainstorm together to find innovative solutions to the selected challenge and their ideas will be presented during the final plenary at the EHMA 2019 Annual Conference.

What is Design Thinking?

This is a human-centered approach to problem-solving with a clear methodology and toolkit. It puts the user in the focus, and emphasizes empathy, insights, ideation and prototyping. EHMAthoners will take part in a half-day Design Thinking training before jumping into intense brainstorming aimed at solving the challenge. The EHMATHON teams will then work on their solutions by using the methodology, along the support of specialized mentors and experts.

The EHMATHON 2019 challenge:

For its 2019 edition, the EHMATHONERS will brainstorm on ”Ecologically sustainable medication: How can we reduce the ecological impact of medicines?”
